The Acorn Project Hawke's Bay

If you’re a young person age 12 to 24 and living with cancer, we're here to help.

You may be a patient yourself. Or there may be a cancer diagnosis in your immediate family. It may be sister, brother, parent or carer. Your carer may be your grandmother or another family member - even someone unrelated to you. Whatever your situation, if you need some support, please get in touch with us.

Our support is based around you

Young people come to us at different stages of their cancer experience.
Some people join at the time of diagnosis, some during the treatment phase or recovery and for some, support can be needed later. Your experience is unique and so is our support.

We'll help you build resilience and tap into your unique strengths and talents. We'll support you to make informed decisions about your future so you know you will be valued, visible and heard.

All of our support is carried out face to face with our locally based youth workers.
We offer one-on-one support, peer support, therapeutic workshops, monthly activities, yearly therapeutic and activity based camps, a parent and caregiver network, and a leadership programme. We also co-ordinate with other services to provide additional or specialist support if it is needed.

Who are The Acorn Project

We’re a not-for-profit organisation founded and based in Hawke’s Bay.

We have an office and shared space in Hastings, where you can connect with other Acorn Project members who share similar experiences to you.

Why we do this

We believe that all young people deserve to be seen and heard, they need to be able to express their worries, thoughts and opinions at every stage of their cancer experience.

They deserve to feel empowered as they continue to develop life skills as they plan for their future, whether they have cancer or not.
