MEMBERSHIP
We offer six different membership options in Hawke’s Bay:
Patients:
Young people aged 12 - 24 years who have been diagnosed, are undergoing or have completed treatment for cancer.
Siblings:
Young people aged 12 - 24 years who have a brother/sister that has been diagnosed, is receiving treatment or has completed treatment for cancer.
Bereaved Siblings:
Young people aged 12 - 24 years who have had a sibling pass away from cancer.
Parent/Main Carer:
Young people aged 12 - 24 years whose parent/main carer has been diagnosed and is receiving treatment for cancer.
Bereaved Sons/Daughters:
Young people age 12 - 24 years who have had a parent / carer passed away from cancer.
Parent/Carer Network:
When a young person aged 12 - 24 years becomes a member of The Acorn Project, their parents/carers also have the option to join their own network for support.
Support
All members aged 12 - 24 years are supported in the following ways:
One on One Support from a Youth Worker
As required or based on assessed needs.
Peer Support
One social activity and one group catch up per month. Access to camps and overnight activities.
Focus Group Sessions
In small groups for/with other members.
Referrals and Collaboration
With other agencies for wrap around support.
